Competition Information

British Fencing Membership

Most competitions require the fencer to have membership of British Fencing. The TRYB web site has a link to British Fencing which has details of how to join

Entry
Ensure that you send in your entry in good time before the closing date and that you enclose the appropriate fee

Kit and Equipment

Read the following important information regarding TRYB kit and equipment. Make sure that you take at least 2 of each of the electronic items that can break or stop working; specifically, weapons, bodywires and lames. Also make sure that your kit meets the requirements of the competition

Weapon sizes vary according to age groups and fencing breeches are usually mandatory. If you are unsure of anything, consult a member of the committee in good time before the day of the competition

TRYB will endeavour to provide coaching at competitions where a number of our members have entered. We will NOT however bring club kit along. It is your responsibility when entering a competition to ensure that you take the correct kit and equipment with you. You can borrow club kit but please let a member of the committee or coaching staff know before doing so

On The Day
Turn up in good time. All competitions have a registration time which is usually strictly enforced in order to keep things running to schedule. If you are late arriving you will probably not be allowed to fence . Don’t forget to bring your BFA membership card with you

Listen for announcements. You will be regularly called to fence so be ready to turn up on the correct piste at the correct time

Keep your spare equipment close by. If something breaks, you will have a limited time to change it. It is also a good idea to keep a drink close by as competitions can be thirsty work

Finally, Enjoy Yourself!
You may not win your first competition but each one you enter will give you more confidence and your results will improve in time. You belong to a good club and you are well coached. Competing and winning is a fantastic feeling. Enjoy it!!!

External competitions have rules which are usually strictly enforced
Members new to competing should follow the advice given on this page to ensure that they are well prepared
